Pray Memorial Day 2008
Contest

Network Newspaper announces
Third Annual Essay, Poetry and Art Contest
Deadline November 20, 2007

Theme is
 “I Give Thanks For God’s Love Because…”

Dear Teachers,
Network Newspaper has decided to extend the deadline for our arts competition to the 20th of November.  There are a few changes as well as an additional, more focused theme.  The additional theme is “I Give Thanks For God’s Love Because…”  Hopefully this new theme will assist your students in staying more focused on the subject.
Attached are rubrics, graphic organizers, and a copy of the Alabama Course of Study for English/Language Arts for each grade level.  The three new grade levels included in the contest are fourth through sixth grade, seventh through ninth grade and tenth through twelfth grade brackets.  All students may submit visual as well as written entries; please keep these separate.  Teachers are advised to give the students a copy of the rubric when beginning the contest writing and that teachers use the rubric to assist the children in the editing process.
We are requesting that all schools have classroom and school level contests prior to submission and that only the top ten entries in each grade bracket be submitted along with a list of all entrants so that all who enter may receive a certificate, but the field will be narrowed before submission to Network Newspaper.  We suggest including this contest as a part of your Language Arts and visual arts programs and curriculum.  Several teachers have done so in the past and found it very successful.
You will find included in this packet certificates for any entries already submitted.  Final grading will be completed after the deadline of November 20, 2007.  Thank you for your enthusiastic participation.
