Obama Courting Catholic Vote?
May 12, 2008

Archbishop Rebukes Obama Advisor

Archbishop Joseph Naumann of Kansas City has stated that Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius should not present herself for Holy Communion. The governor, a Catholic who sits on Sen. Barack Obama’s Catholic National Advisory Council, is a long-time supporter of abortion rights.

As Archbishop Naumann recently wrote, Gov. Sebelius’ support for abortion can be seen in her recent veto of the Comprehensive Abortion Reform Act, which indicates that “the governor does not approve of legislators devoting energy to protecting children and women by making it possible to enforce existing Kansas law regarding late-term abortions.” Archbishop Naumann also pointed out that Sebelius has accepted campaign contributions from Dr. George Tiller, the notorious late-term abortionist.

It is telling that Sen. Obama should have chosen Gov. Sebelius to advise him on matters Catholic. After all, when in the Illinois state senate, the presidential contender led the fight to deny care to babies born alive as a result of botched abortions. That he should choose a Catholic politician who so disregards the Church’s respect for life speaks volumes about his intentions for this council.

It is difficult for me to understand how anyone who knows and believes in the Judeo-Christian foundation upon which our nation established; or acknowledges the scriptures as the word of God (i.e., Psalm 139) could view abortion as anything but a deliberate destruction of the child within the mother’s womb.

Millions of children have been destroyed since the Supreme Court/Roe v Wade decision. Despite scientific evidence to the contrary this horrifying decision refuses to recognize the human life within the womb. How Supreme is this learned court when it continues to deny the truth,

It is also difficult for me to understand why knowing that LIFE is sacred groups like Planned Parenthood, NARAL, and abortion clinics throughout the nation continue to line up millions of women for abortion and for profit. They deceive women into believing that the answer to their problems is to kill their own child.

So why are they courting Catholic and Evangelical and other Christians who are prolife voters? Could it be that the answer is control and that people who stand for life are a threat to their liberal socialist agenda?

Pope Benedict XVI recently said in Washington: ‘Any tendency to treat religion as a private matter must be resisted.’

Examples of candidate’s views:

JOHN McCAIN has set up his Catholic Advisory Committee. It's more than one hundred strong.

In a joint statement, Governor Keating and Senator Brownback added: “In this election, with so much at stake, we need a leader who will help transform history to extend and uphold the rights and dignity of each and every child of God. John McCain is that leader.” Mr. McCain still believes in embryonic stem sell research!

John McCain expressed his appreciation and stated: “I am very pleased to have the support of this distinguished coalition of Catholic leaders. I am proud to stand side-by-side with Catholics on many of the most critical issues of our day: defending the sanctity of human life, upholding traditional marriage, expanding educational choice, and defending America from the threats that we face around the globe. I have fought my entire life to protect religious freedom and human rights around the world. I look forward to working with these Catholic leaders in the weeks and months ahead as we take our shared values to the White House.”

Obama supporter Sen. Bob Casey (D-Penn.) said he disagrees with Obama about abortion but that Obama has gifts of leadership that he demonstrates by listening to different perspectives. “He understands that even when there’s disagreement, you have an obligation of trying to achieve common ground, and try to go down the path that leads to the common good, and I think he will do that as president.”

“As a committed Christian, Sen. Obama has shown a really deep commitment to reaching out to communities of all faiths, and we’re thrilled to be launching this National Catholic Advisory Council,” Joshua DuBois, Obama’s director of religious affairs, told reporters in a conference call Friday. “I don’t recall a time in recent history when a Democratic candidate has made such an early and sustained effort to reach out to American Catholics and all faith communities.”

HILLARY CLINTON: “My opponent is wrong. I have said many times that I can support a ban on late-term abortions, including partial-birth abortions, so long as the health and life of the mother is protected. I’ve met women who faced this heart-wrenching decision toward the end of a pregnancy. Of course it’s a horrible procedure. No one would argue with that. But if your life is at stake, if your health is at stake, if the potential for having any more children is at stake, this must be a woman’s choice.”

CATHOLIC LEAGUE PRESIDENT BILL DONHUE\May 2, 2008

CATHOLIC DISSIDENTS ADVISE OBAMA

When Sen. Barack Obama recently announced the formation of his Catholic National Advisory Council, he said he was “deeply honored to have the support and counsel of these committed Catholic leaders, scholars and advocates.” Commenting on this group is Catholic League president Bill Donohue:

“The best advice I can give Sen. Obama about his Catholic National Advisory Council is to dissolve it immediately. Of the 26 Catholic former or current public office holders he has listed as either National Co-Chairs (5), or as members of the National Leadership Committee (21), there is not one who agrees with the Catholic Church on all three major public policy issues: abortion, embryonic stem cell research and school vouchers.

“Indeed, on the issue of abortion, their record is disgraceful. Consider the scorecard as issued by the most radical pro-abortion organization in the nation—NARAL*. Of the two National Co-Chairs who have a NARAL tally, one agrees with the extremist group 65 percent of the time and the other agrees 100 percent of the time. Of the 20 National Leadership Committee members with a NARAL score, 17 have earned a 100 percent rating. Of those who have less than a perfect score, not one is in favor of school vouchers. [Click here for the evidence.]

“Practicing Catholics have every right to be insulted by Obama’s advisory group. What is the purpose of having an advisory group about matters Catholic when most of its members reject the Catholic position? If Obama wanted input from gay leaders, would he choose those who don’t reflect the sentiments of the gay community? In short, to choose Catholic dissidents to advise him about Catholic concerns is mind-boggling.

“If these are the best ‘committed Catholic leaders, scholars and advocates’ Obama can find, then it is evident that he has a ‘Wright’ problem when it comes to picking Catholic advisors.”

*National Co-Chairs with a NARAL PRO CHOICE ADVOCATES record:
Sen. Robert Casey: 65%
Rep. Patrick Murphy: 100%

National Leadership Committee with a NARAL record:
Former Sen. Majority Leader Tom Daschle: 50%
Sen. Richard Durbin: 100%
Sen. Edward Kennedy: 100%
Sen. John Kerry: 100%
Sen. Patrick Leahy: 100%
Rep. Xavier Becerra: 100%
Rep. Mike Capuano: 100%
Rep. Lacy Clay: 100%
Rep. Jerry Costello: 0%
Rep. Bill Delahunt: 100%
Rep. Rosa DeLauro: 100%
Rep. Anna Eshoo: 100%
Rep. Raul Grijalva: 100%
Rep. Patrick Kennedy: 100%
Rep. John Larson: 100%
Rep. George Miller: 100%
Rep. James Oberstar: 0%
Rep. Linda Sanchez: 100%
Rep. Carol Shea Porter: 100%
Rep. Peter Welch: 100%

Taking a look at this list lets us see that this insanity continues. Our nation is being robbed of its integrity, truth and righteousness. Yet we can pray. This month their are many prayer initiatives Global Prayer Network and Presidential Day of Prayer including individual states and small town call to prayer, Hopefully this may help change our trajectory from death to life and light.
