Life-Saving 40 Days for Life Campaign Starts in Birmingham
September 28 - November 6
Birmingham, AL – “On September 28, the Birmingham metro area’s sixth 40 Days for Life campaign begins,” said Jim Pinto, a spokesperson for the Birmingham effort. The 40 Days for Life campaign runs simultaneously, and internationally, from Wednesday, 28 September through Sunday, 6 November.
The campaign will feature prayer and fasting, community outreach, and a 40-day peaceful and legal prayer vigil outside the Planned Parenthood abortion business at 1211- 27th Place South, Birmingham.
Pastor Terry Gensemer will lead the starting Candlelight Rally at Planned Parenthood on Tuesday, 27 September, at 6:30 pm. Bishop Emeritus Foley will also participate. “All people of life – including all life-affirming clergy – are invited to attend and unite in prayer for the end to abortion in our city and nation”, stated Gensemer.
40 Days for Life is an intensive pro-life initiative that focuses on 40 days of prayer and fasting, 40 days of peaceful vigil at abortion facilities, and 40 days of grassroots educational outreach. The 40-day time frame is drawn from examples throughout Biblical history where God brought about world-changing transformation in 40-day periods.
“40 Days for Life has generated proven life-saving results since its beginning in 2004 in Bryan/College Station, Texas,” said David Bereit, national director of 40 Days for Life. “During eight previous coordinated campaigns, more than 380 communities have participated in this effort. More than 400,000 people – representing some 13,000 churches – have committed to pray and fast. And we know of at least 4,300 unborn children whose lives were spared from abortion during 40 Days for Life campaigns.”
