Netanyahu: We're 'Closely Monitoring' Egypt

JERUSALEM, Israel - Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told cabinet ministers on Sunday they are "closely monitoring" the crisis in Egypt and asked them not to comment publicly due to the sensitivity of the situation.
"Of course at this time we must show maximum responsibility, restraint and sagacity and, to this end, I have instructed my fellow ministers to refrain from commenting on the issue," he said.
Netanyahu said he had spoken with the President Barack Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Saturday and held meetings with Defense Minister Ehud Barak, Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman and several military intelligence officials.
"The peace between Israel and Egypt has continued for more than three decades and our goal is to ensure these relations will continue to exist," he said. "Our efforts center on continuing to maintain stability and security in our region," he said. |
