Education Spending Won't Create Jobs
By NetworkNews @ 2:40 PM :: 521 Views

by Phyllis Schlafly April 1, 2

Contrary to Obama's political rhetoric, more taxpayer spending to send more students to college will not reduce unemployment or improve the economy. It's just Obama's way of finagling the unemployment statistics by listing young people as students instead of as unemployed.

     A report by the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland confirmed that when it comes to long-term unemployment, the length of unemployment is unrelated to education level. Although employment is higher for people with more years of education, the duration of unemployment is the same for all education levels.

    A new phrase is now commonly included in job ads for all kinds of positions: "must be currently employed." Charts from the Bureau of Labor Statistics show remarkably parallel lines for the duration of unemployment of Americans age 25 and older who have less than a high school diploma, only a high school diploma, some college, or a college degree.

There's a special kind of faith: a faith-astonishment, an "incredulous faith,"
By NetworkNews @ 2:22 PM :: 425 Views

VATICAN CITY, APRIL 1, 2011- There's a special kind of faith: a faith-astonishment, an "incredulous faith," a faith that makes us happy. And this, says the preacher of the Pontifical Household, is faith in God's love for us.

Capuchin Father Raniero Cantalamessa made this reflection today when he gave his second Lenten sermon in the presence of Benedict XVI and members of the Roman Curia.

The preacher continued with the series he began last week on love, considering "two very different meanings" of the expression "love of God": "one in which God is object and the other in which God is subject; one which indicates our love for God and the other which indicates God's love for us."

If you don't understand faith in the Middle East, you don't understand the Middle East
By NetworkNews @ 11:19 AM :: 469 Views

By TONY BLAIR 02/16/2011 23:12

     A new type of debate is taking shape. It can center around immigration or protectionism but it is above all, about issues to do with culture and integration and it is altogether more vigorous and potentially more explosive. In the Middle East, it is about whether the West fundamentally respects or does not the religion of Islam; and the Israel-Palestine dispute is caught up with it.

 In Europe, it is about whether our attempt to integrate cultures has succeeded or failed; and insofar as there is a perception of failure, it is about whether our "generosity" in allowing inward migration and encouraging multi-culturalism has been abused. Here it is often felt that the "host" nations are being unfairly taken advantage of by those who want Western benefits but not Western values. The economic challenge is intensifying the cultural one.

Bernard Nathanson Passes Away, Was Early Abortion Muckraker
By NetworkNews @ 5:35 PM :: 377 Views
Dr. Bernard Nathanson died this morning after a long battle with cancer. Nathanson was an early abortion muckraker whose exposing of the abortion industry is a precursor to the famous work done by pro-life activists like Lila Rose.

Nathanson wasn’t always pro-life and he started out as an abortion practitioner based in New York City who presided over more than 75,000 abortions.But the doctor hoped he saved many more lives than that after witnessing an ultrasound and becoming pro-life. He then dedicated his life to ending abortions and his video, the Silent Scream, is considered a classic because it was the first to use the technology of ultrasound to make the unambiguous case that unborn children are human beings who deserve legal protection starting at their earliest days.The video, showing an unborn baby recoiling from an abortion...

Gem of Christian History at Risk in Turkey
By NetworkNews @ 5:16 PM :: 284 Views

By Paul de Maeyer ROME, FEB. 18, 2011 (Zenit.org).- Not even the Mongols of the 14th century, when they killed 40 monks and some 400 faithful, succeeded in making one of the most ancient Christian convents in the world disappear, but perhaps Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan of Turkey, can.
This appears to be the case of the Syro-Orthodox monastery of Mor Gabriel or "Dayro d-Mor Gabriel," called "Deyrulumur" in Turkish. It is located in the region of Turabdin in the southeast of Anatolia. The convent bears the name of Mor Gabriel (634-668), bishop of Turabdin, known for his witness of holiness and miracles.
